The Hollyshorts Film Festival is over with fantastic results! Mikos and crew bring home the trophy for Honorable Mention as well as winning the Audience Choice Award! And in the same block as "Henry John and the Little Bug" is the overall winner, "Piano Fingers". Congratulations to Mikos, JT Mollner, Chris Ivan Cevic and the rest of the crew.
The opening Red Carpet night at the DGA building brought celebrities such as Dee Wallace, David Arquette, Jennifer Seibel Newsom and her husband the Mayor of SF Gavin Newsom. With free Moet champagne and open bar, the festivities were lively and whetted our appetite for the festival.
NoRemake's block on Sunday proved to be a formidable lineup of films, including but not limited to a post apocalyptic tale of a girl and her gun toting stuffed bear, a heart wrenching tale of an old performing couple who deal with Alzheimer's (Piano Fingers) and a young couple who meet at the wrong time in their lives to start a love affair. Other blocks included films with Dick Van Dyke, Alicia Witt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Don Cheadle, Will Ferrell and Kirsten Dunst.
Closing night was held at My Studio Space on Hollywood Blvd. Open vodka and Stella Artois as well as tasty hors d'oeuvres preceded the award ceremony. We were all elated when "Henry John and the Little Bug" was announced as the Audience Choice Award, and floored to get the Honorable Mention next to a strong film such as "Piano Fingers".
Note: A brave Mikos met the opening Red Carpet event, screenings, and the closing event with Bell's Palsy, which has temporarily paralyzed the right side of his face. I wish you a speedy recovery! I know you're a private guy, Mikos, but I want you to know, we're thinking of you. (I'm wishing you well for your broken heart too... Don't worry - I know there's a girl out there, waiting for a guy like you!)
- D. Fineman :)

Congratulations are in order for Mikos, NoRemake Pictures and Burnt Pictures as "Henry John and the Little Bug" is officially selected to premiere at Hollyshorts Film Festival in Hollywood, the week of August 5-12. It will play at the venerated Laemmle Theatre on Sunset in Hollywood. "I'm really excited for JT and our team. We all worked hard and made a fine piece of film that deserves to be seen by the public", says Mikos. "Henry John and the Little Bug" is a genre twisting, multi-format short that runs 20 minutes. Mikos continues, "Despite the length, it was accepted in a Hollywood film festival, which is exciting. The advice we have received was to keep it under 10 minutes."
We all hope to see you there in Aug. You can keep up with the festival news at the NoRemake FaceBook page or the Hollyshorts schedule page.

Noir photography in San Pedro was the gig for Mikos today. M&B Studios uses film to capture the Noir feel from the 30s and 40s. Mikos had a great time playing Elderidge, who confronts the man who murdered his partner. A small scene was played out as the photogs took the shots. A lot of fun with one of Mikos's favorite looks for film.

A two day stint on a windy, dry lake bed in Boron, CA bears the latest fruit from NoRemake Pictures. "Sugartown" is the story of a soldier driven mad by PTS and the ravages of unjust warfare. Shot entirely in one take using the Red cam, it proved to be a challenging piece for Mikos. "The one take approach was quite ballsy. Adding to the logistical hardship of eight actors who needed to be in sync, shadows, focus, high winds all added to the festival! I am confident we will be quite proud of the finished product."
"Sugartown" is the latest from NoRemake/Burnt Pictures and stars John Allen Phillips, Mikos Zavros, Chris Ivan Cevic, Bernardo Verdugo and Daniel Mollner as Marines, with Gabriel Stone, Duke Mollner and George Harrison rounding out the cast. Emmy and Academy Award winning DP Gavin Kelly operates the Red cam.

A short pick-up session for "Double Crossed", takes Mikos to a beautiful house overlooking the valley. He also had the pleasure of working with Miguel Nunez, Jr in a couple scenes. That will wrap Mikos for this film. Onward!

A different view of production is experienced by Mikos Zavros as he works as an AC/grip for the short film, "Drop Off", directed by Harold Hyde. He'll be teaming with Click West Photographer, colleague and good friend John Allen Phillips.
Mikos also asked me to extend a warm thanks to Marston Fobbs for referring him to the director of "Double Crossed". Thanks, Marston!

On the set of Gary Anthony Sturgis' "Double Crossed" in Manhatten Beach, Mikos reports that he had an excellent collaborative experience with the director to help bring Gary's character come alive. "Gary was thrilled with the choices I made for David." David hires a hit crew to take out his cheating wife. "I approached him as not being sure he made the right decision and a bit flaky, which I believe brought out the depth in a desperate character. ", says Mikos.
Gary is known for working with Tyler Perry in "Diary of a Mad Black Woman", and "Pride". He is taking on directing in this project.
Mikos has also started a series of workshops with Snyder/Rossi Intensives in Hollywood. Scene study is coupled with industry guests, whom he will perform scenes and monologues for. This is coupled with his ongoing study with the Australian Institute of Dramatic Arts.

"What a great time! I gained some experience points and worked with a very focused and talented director.", reports Mikos. He has wrapped "Cartel", directed by Alison Cardoso. And is looking forward to his next project.

A bit of show biz news about MGM here.
3/16/10
The scenes for "He Who Finds a Wife..." wrapped and now he is onto a webseries by Alison Cardoso entitled, "Cartel". He will be playing Don Raul, the notorious leader of Cartel Villadiablo. This will be a fun shoot for Mikos as he can hone his comedic timing and work on an accent (that doesn't particularly have to be good!).
3/07/10
"That's a wrap!". Gene Shibuya's "Warp" has a few more scenes left, but Mikos is on to his next project. Mikos would like to thank the crew and actors of "Warp" for a great time and the chance to further the honing of his acting chops. We are celebrating the small victories here!
:)

Mikos has been cast in in Southern Peach Entertainment's "He Who Finds a Wife...". He will be playing a senior prosecuter at a law firm. " I haven't recieved the script yet, but the crew seems to be really cool".
Mikos has two more days before wrap up of "Warp", "It's been a really educating experience. Lots of reaction shots, which forces you to concentrate on acting!". "Warp" is being filmed on 2 new Canon 5D in HDs, which are fast becoming popular and being used by some TV shows I believe.
2/23/10
Mikos is filming the feature, "Warp", directed by Gene Shibuya. He was bloodied and creeping through several dungenous sets. Filmed partly at Willow studios, LA, there will be some green screen work at McNulty Nielson studios in NoHo, as well as other locations. Mikos plays a frustrated filmmaker who finds a job on Craigslist as a videographer for a ghost hunting crew.

Things have been tough the last year for everybody. NoRemake's option with Capitol Films hasn't worked out. Apparently Capitol have been in some rough waters according to the industry news articles. Some big productions with big names have had issues with them also.
But in this new year, things are already looking up. Renewed interest from a credible source has surfaced. The boys at NoRemake are totally optimistic in a more grown-up fashion for their project this year.
